I started covering my head because of 1 Cor 11. That was in 2002. Then in 2011 I felt called to cover more often. After all, 1 Thess 5:17 says we should pray without ceasing, so I would therefore need to cover 'without ceasing,' right? It's been an interesting journey. A lonely journey till recently.
I shared some of these scriptures with friends at church and the next Sabbath, they were also covering. A common theme was that they grew up seeing it but no-one had ever told them why, nor did they take the time to thoroughly study the Bible and find it on their own. And so at least at my current church, I'm not the only one who covers. Great not to be the 'outlier!'
Modesty. I've outlined throughout the blog the reasons for this, so I'll just state that I only wear leggings under my skirts/dresses. I haven't worn trousers, tracksuits or jeans in years and my daughter NEVER has and I'll never buy any for her. I don't wear anything above the knee and I don't wear tops that reveal my cleavage. I believe my body and its silhouette are for my husband and no-one else, so tight tops and skirts are avoided as much as possible.
If you are Adventist then you'll know that EGW told us that visible ankles, short sleeves, unclad limbs are immodest and unhealthy regardless of what society now believs(Lack of balance for blood flow etc. You can see more on www.temcat.com under the "Physiology of Dress Reform" heading.) So I don't wear short sleeves and my ankles are hidden in stockings/socks-much like men who wear business suits every day.
It might seem extreme, but believe me, I do it because I believe it's what God wants, and what God wants, pleases me. I love Him and will do what He wants. Plus I know for sure that He'll never judge me for the way I dress, though He may condemn me for not following 1 Tim 2:9.10 etc.
